Uzbekistan and China join forces on desertification control

Uzbekistan will collaborate with China in implementing technologies for the development of arid regions.

The UzDaily media outlet (Uzbekistan) reports:

“On the sidelines of the SCO forum on green development, a meeting took place between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Ecology, Environment, and Climate Change, Aziz Abduhakimov, and China’s Minister of Ecology and Environment, Huang Runqiu.

Aziz Abduhakimov highlighted Uzbekistan’s readiness to closely collaborate with China’s National Council for Combating Sandstorms and Desertification and the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in implementing technologies for the development of arid regions.

He also invited leading Chinese scientists and specialists to work at the Central Asian University for Environmental and Climate Change (Green University) in Tashkent.

Earlier, a delegation from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Ecology visited the Chinese cities of Urumqi and Karamay to learn about the activities of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Chinese side showcased achievements in conserving and restoring ecosystems in deserts and arid regions, including technologies for soil desalination for agricultural use.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a joint working group to expedite the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on Environmental Cooperation signed during the official visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to China in January of this year.”
