China questions US biowarfare labs

China questions purpose of US bio-warfare labs in 30 overseas countries

According to data published by the U.S., America has 26 bio-labs in Ukraine, which are under absolute control of the U.S. Department of Defense.

The United States should receive multilateral check for its biological militarization activities and make a relevant clarification, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said on 8 February 2022.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian made the remarks when responding to a query about some reports that the American Embassy in Ukraine has recently removed all documents about U.S.-funded bio-labs in Ukraine from its website. “It is reported that those bio-labs store a large number of dangerous viruses. During Russia’s military operation, it is also found that the U.S. is using those facilities to conduct biological militarization activities.

According to data published by the U.S., America has 26 bio-labs in Ukraine, which are under absolute control of the U.S. Department of Defense. All the dangerous viruses in Ukraine must be stored in those bio-labs and all the research activities should be led by the U.S. Without U.S. permission, no information should be disclosed,” said Zhao. “Under the current situation and for the health and safety of people in Ukraine, the surrounding areas and even the whole world, we call on all parties concerned to ensure the safety of those labs.

As the party with the best knowledge of those labs, the U.S. should release relevant details as soon as possible, including what kind of viruses are stored and what kind of researches have been carried out,” said Zhao.

“The U.S. biological militarization activities in Ukraine is just a tip of the iceberg. Under the cloak of ‘reducing biosecurity risk through cooperation and strengthening global public health’, the U.S. Department of Defense has taken control of 336 bio-labs in 30 countries around the world. Yes, it is 336 and you heard it right.

The U.S. has also conducted a lot of biological militarization activities at the Fort Detrick research base. What’s the true intention of the U.S. and what exactly has it done? The international community has been skeptical about that, but the U.S. always takes a perfunctory attitude and even describes the international community’s doubt as ‘spreading false information’ said Zhao.

“Over the past two decades, the U.S. has been standing alone in the way of establishing a verification regime to the Biological Weapons Convention and refused to accept inspection for its biological facilities within and outside its borders. The move has further aggravated the concern of the international community.

We once again urge the U.S. to make full clarification of its biological militarization activities within and outside its borders and accept multilateral check,” said Zhao.
